Jose' Manuel Reina was born on 31 August 1982 in Madrid, Spain and he is the son of Miguel Reina, a famous FC Barcelona and Atlético Madrid goalkeeper.
Although Reina is from Madrid, he began his career with Catalan giants FC Barcelona youth team and made his La Liga debut in the 2000-01 season.
In 2002 he played for Villareal CF, becoming the first choice goalkeeper and in 2004 he signed a permanent deal for that football team.
But soon, in 2005, he changed again and made his début for Merseyside club Liverpool, suddenly becoming their first choice goalkeeper.
In 2006 he reached his most important success, saving three out of four penalties in the final to help win the FA Cup.
In 2007 he reached the Champions League Final, but the team lost to A.C. Milan.
He has set a number of goalkeeping records for Liverpool and he won the Premier League Golden Glove award for clean sheets in his first three seasons in this club.
He is also a regular in Spanish National Football Team, playing also in 2008 when it won the final against Greece.
In May 2006 he has married his longtime girlfriend Yolanda Ruiz and they have two daughters.
